Guided tour of the Industry Museum exhibition
How did Tampere become the Manchester of Finland, the centre of Finnish industry? And how did industrialisation change the everyday life of the citizens? The Industry Museum exhibition tells the two-hundred-year-old story of Tampere’s industry. The guided tour introduces you to Tampere’s industrial operations, products, and workers. The tour includes a visit to the Steam Engine Museum, where you can find Finland’s largest steam engine in its original location in the old Finlayson factory area.

Guided tour of the Steam Engine Museum
During the guided tour, you will learn about the operation and impressive technology of the Finlayson cotton mill’s power source, the more than 120-year-old Sulzer steam engine, which is the largest factory steam engine ever used in Finland.
The massive flywheel at the centre measures over eight metres in diameter. The steam engine, located in its original place, is definitely a must-see!

A guided walking tour exploring the emergence and development of the Tammerkoski area and Tampere’s factories and working population.
The tour takes you through the old factory areas located upstream of the Tammerkoski rapids.
The tour starts and ends at the Finnish Labour Museum Werstas.
